Ο κ. Γεώργιος Σπανός γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε φυσικοθεραπεία στη Σχολή Φυσικοθεραπείας Αθηνών, από όπου και αποφοίτησε. Στη συνέχεια, έκανε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές σε Πανεπιστήμια της Σουηδίας και την Αγγλίας.
Μετά από περιπλανήσεις σε διάφορες χώρες της Ευρώπης, όπου παρακολούθησε σεμινάρια της Μεθόδου ΜcKenzie-ΜΔΘ, το 1993 μετέβη στη Νέα Ζηλανδία, όπου παρακολούθησε και ολοκλήρωσε επιτυχώς το πρόγραμμα του Διπλώματος στη μέθοδο McKenzie – ΜΔΘ, στην οποία μέθοδο είναι απολύτως αφιερωμένος από τότε.
Το 1995, ίδρυσε το Ελληνικό Ινστιτούτο McKenzie (The McKenzie Institute Hellas – Cyprus), του οποίου συνεχίζει να είναι Πρόεδρος, μέχρι σήμερα.
Το 2000, ανακηρύχθηκε από το Διεθνές Ινστιτούτο, Senior Instructor της μεθόδου McKenzie – Μηχανική Διάγνωση και Θεραπεία.
Το 2005, σε συνεργασία με το Διεθνές Ινστιτούτο McKenzie οργάνωσε 9ο Παγκόσμιο Συνέδριο McKenzie, το οποίο σημείωσε πολύ μεγάλη επιτυχία.
Σήμερα, διδάσκει, δίνει διαλέξεις, παρουσιάζει και δημοσιεύει εργασίες γύρω από τη Μέθοδο McKenzie-ΜΔΘ, και είναι εκδότης του επιστημονικού περιοδικού «Μηχανική Διάγνωση και Θεραπεία».
Επίσης, έχει τη χαρά να είναι ιδιοκτήτης και διευθυντής της Κλινικής Μηχανικού Πόνου, της μοναδικής στην Ελλάδα Πιστοποιημένης Κλινικής McKenzie.
Είναι Μέλος στην Ελληνική Εταιρεία Σπονδυλικής Στήλης (ΕΕΣΣ) και στην Ελληνική Εταιρεία Χειρουργικής Ορθοπαιδικής & Τραυματολογίας (ΕΕΧΟΤ), Τμήμα Σπονδυλικής Στήλης.
